Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
