Jennifer Lawrence Says Discussing Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Nation Apart

Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer suitable to speak out regarding the Trump presidency, worried it could worsen divisive discussions and increase separation throughout the nation.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says Lawrence

In a recent interview, Lawrence shared, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars have no real impact in any way on electoral choices.”

Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on an issue that’s going to heighten conflict dividing the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Jennifer Lawrence has admitted freely about supporting Republican and Democratic contenders in past elections. Raised by a right-leaning family in her home state, she cast her ballot for John McCain in 2008 before joining the left-leaning politics and stating she recognized during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was opposing her individual liberties as a woman.

Earlier Remarks

Several years ago, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency could represent “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she voiced her backing to Kamala Harris, “because I think she’s a strong contender and I trust that she will take all necessary steps to defend women’s health rights.”

Industry Position

Lawrence was aligned with numerous celebrities in her opposition to the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the electoral decisions was underscored by his election win.

“The second term seems distinct,” noted Lawrence of his administration. “Because he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”

New Release

The actor is currently promoting Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s drama in which she portrays a new mother who faces challenges with her mental health in the countryside. During a press conference for the project in the film festival, Lawrence addressed the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is no less than a atrocity and it’s awful.”

Broader Concerns

Lawrence added by expressing that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the discussions of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be accepted to the kids now. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”

She attempted to refocus frustration about the issue to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she said, which was interpreted as a reference to the declaration supported by numerous arts community members to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.

Relatable Experiences

The actor, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her role in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her work in her latest project. Although Lynne Ramsay has disputed the narrative being interpreted as one of post-birth struggles and mental illness, she said that she did relate to elements of her character’s journey after the arrival of her youngest child, soon after filming concluded.

“There was concern about my child,” she said, “just picturing every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a treatment called Zurzuvae and I used it for 14 days and it really helped.”

Professional Experiences

The actor also mentioned of the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the movie while she was expecting and limited physically.

“It feels nice,” she remarked, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
