Analysts Identify Kremlin Fear Operation Against Tomahawk Use

The Kremlin is executing a psychological influence initiative of warnings to prevent the US from providing Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv, according to defense experts. A senior Russian lawmaker stated: “We are familiar with these weapons very well, their flight patterns, methods to intercept them, we worked on them in Middle East operations, so this is not innovative. The providers and the deploying forces will encounter difficulties … We will identify methods to damage those who create problems for us.”

Kyiv's Military Push Progress

Kyiv's troops were inflicting heavy losses in a counteroffensive in eastern Donetsk region, the central battlefield, the Ukrainian president reported on midweek. Zelenskyy's assessment, based on a briefing from his chief of defense, contrasted with the Russian president's speech before defense leadership a day earlier in which he claimed the invading army maintained the military advantage in all frontline sectors.

Based on evaluation covering early October, military analysts said Russia was incurring heavy casualty rates, mainly because of unmanned aerial vehicle assaults, in return for limited tactical advances. Defending units, the president stated, were “defending ourselves along multiple fronts”, mentioning particularly northeastern Kupiansk, a significantly ruined town in north-eastern Ukraine under heavy Russian assaults for several months.

Area Developments

Administrative officials in the Kherson area of southern Kherson said Russian attacks on midweek resulted in three fatalities in and around the city of the oblast center. Administrative officials of northern Sumy, on the border area with Russia, said three people died in Russian drone attacks in various areas. Ukraine's air force said it neutralized or disrupted most of the attack and decoy UAVs through the evening.

A Russian attack substantially impacted one of Ukraine's thermal power plants, government sources stated on Wednesday. Two workers were wounded in the assault, based on information from power utility representatives. Officials offered limited details, about the plant's location, but Ukrainian authorities said strikes hit critical utilities in Ukraine's northern Chernihiv, the Kherson area and the Dnipropetrovsk area.

Humanitarian Impact

In the northern Ukrainian city of Shostka, significantly damaged by the offensive operations against the electrical grid, officials have created emergency spaces where residents may seek warmth, access hot drinks, charge their phones and obtain emotional assistance, as reported by administrative leader.

Diplomatic Measures

The Ukrainian diplomat to the military alliance on Wednesday called on European allies to step up purchases of US weapons for Ukraine. “This doesn't mean we prefer American weapons instead of allied or alternative military systems – the issue is that we require the America for weapons which European nations don't possess,” said Ukraine's NATO envoy.

Federal law enforcement will immediately gain permission to neutralize UAVs, government official said on Wednesday, following multiple unmanned aircraft incidents considered likely Moscow's attempts to conduct surveillance and threaten. Presenting proposed legislation, the minister said police would be authorized “to take advanced technological measures against unmanned aircraft dangers, such as EMP technology, electronic interference, GPS interference, but also with direct interception”.

EU Defense Challenges

European Commission President declared on midweek that Europe must ramp up its protective capabilities to counter Moscow's multifaceted attacks after airspace breaches, computer network operations and damage to undersea cables. “This is not coincidental events. They constitute a systematic and intensifying operation,” the official said in a presentation to the European parliament. “Two incidents are random chance, but three, five, ten – this is a deliberate and targeted grey zone campaign against EU nations, and Europe must respond.”

Displacement Situation

The Swiss authorities has extended its refugee protection granted to displaced Ukrainians to at least 4 March 2027. Protection status S, which allows people to travel abroad as well as be employed in Switzerland, is generally limited to one year but can be continued. “The decision shows the persistent unstable environment and ongoing military actions across significant Ukrainian territory,” said a official communication. “Regardless of worldwide negotiation attempts, a lasting stabilisation that would enable protected homecoming is not anticipated in the medium term.”
